Tips to Fusion Splice Your Fiber Optic Cable

Talking about splicing fiber optic cable, you will find two different types of splicing processes. Fusion splice will be the first type and the second one will be mechanical splicing. In this article, we are going to talk about fusion splicing since this is the most recommended type due to the less risk of insertion. Here are some tips in splicing your cable by using this certain method.

You have to notice first that fusion splicing is generally a bond of two or more optical fiber that joined together permanently by welding. You need to provide splice cleaver if you want to have less problems of light loss or reflection. Making such a poor spice causes the ends of the fiber could not melt together properly, and surely it could cause problems.

Heat Shrink Tubing

To begin splicing your cable, you can start to prepare the fiber first. Strip all the coatings, tubes, as well as jackets of your cable and make sure that you have only bare fiber left. Clean all of the filing gel from the fiber by using gel cleaner. Make sure that you are cleaning it well since clean environment will be great to support better connection.

Tips to Fusion Splice Your Fiber Optic Cable

Second, you can cleave the fiber. You need to provide a good cleaver to get an excellent splice. You can align the fibers either automatically or manually when you fusing the fibers together. It will be depended on the type of your machine. An electrical arc usually will melt the fibers together and it will create permanent welding for the two ends of the fibers.

Third, you can take heat shrink tubing to protect the fiber. It will be perfect to keep the optical fiber of your cable safe from any elements that might create breakage.

Now your cable has been spliced successfully. In order to get maximum splicing result, it will be better for you to provide some supporting tools in great quality. Therefore, you will not feel disappointed with the splicing result of the cable.

A Look at DVD Shrink Wrap Systems

Shrink wrap machines use plastics to protect items from moisture and dirt during storage or transport. The plastic film is wrapped around the item and then the film is heated. It shrinks and conforms to the shape of the item, forming a barrier between the product and outside hazards. Shrink wrap systems may be small and manually operated for the home business, or large-scale automated machines used by shipping companies. Automatic machines can process more items and hour than their smaller counterparts.

DVDs can be easily shrink wrapped for a professional look that protects the DVD from the environment. Machines designed to shrink wrap DVDs work more efficiently than generic hand-held shrink wrapping systems. Some machines shrink wrap only DVDs; others can shrink wrap both DVDs and CDs. Machines specifically designed for DVDs are typically cheaper than dual systems, and can be purchased for under ,000.

Heat Shrink Tubing

To shrink wrap a DVD with a shrink wrap machine, place a precut plastic cover on the machine’s platform, and then place the DVD on top of the plastic. Close the machine’s cover to heat seal the DVD. The sealing temperature is electronically controlled by the machine. These semi-automatic machines can shrink wrap about 200 DVDs an hour. Automated machines work twice as fast, shrink wrapping about 400 DVDs an hour.

A Look at DVD Shrink Wrap Systems

More expensive, fully automatic machines can shrink wrap about 55 CDs or DVDs a minute, or about 3000 an hour. These machines cost about ,000, but can also handle films other than plastic. Paper or cardboard could also be used, for example. Automated high throughput machines are portable and can sit on tables, taking up less space than floor-bound machines, but the table-top machines can shrink wrap DVDs and a comparable rate.

Several online stores sell all kinds of DVD shrink wrap systems at wholesale prices. These Web sites sell both the machines and the films need to shrink wrap DVDs. There you will find everything you need to package DVDS with a professional look.

A Unique Jigging Strategy For Bass in the Brush

Have you ever ran across that half submerged treetop and thought if you could just get a line in there you would haul out a nice one or two? Sure you have. We all have and probably tried it with our conventional equipment with the end result being snagged and losing a lure. The same technique crappie anglers apply for brushy areas with a long telescopic pole that has only one eye on the end and no reel can be applied for bass in this situation with a few modifications.

Most of you know what type pole I am referring to. The long fiberglass type that telescopes out of the handle in 3 to 5 sections. Then telescopes back into the handle for storage. They have only one eye on the end and no reel seat. Virtually a high tech cane pole. Several companies market them and they can be found at your local tackle shop, fishing super store or on the Internet. An example is one marketed by B n M called the Black Widow which, depending on size, is from 10 to 30 dollars. They range in size from about 10 feet to 20 feet. I choose one in the 15 foot range and after modification it turns into a nice sized rig.

Heat Shrink Tubing

You will notice these rods are quite flimsy with not a lot of backbone on the tip. The solution here is to find a larger replacement rod tip. Usually they can be found in kit form at your local tackle shop, fishing super store or searching the Internet. Fuji makes a nice kit that comes with hot melt glue or you can use a stronger epoxy. Pick a tip that is close in size to one you would find on a heavy bass rod. Next cut the end of the telescopic pole down until the larger tip you chose fits nicely and glue it in place. For extra security I add heat shrink tubing or reinforced tape at the junction of the tip and rod. This modification will help stiffen the tip and give the pole more backbone.

A Unique Jigging Strategy For Bass in the Brush

For line I like a good braided line in the 40 to 50 pound test range. Braided line has less memory, stretch, abrasion resistance and a stronger size to weight ratio than monofilament. Diameter wise, 20 pound monofilament is roughly equivalent in size to 80 pound braided line. Start with 10 to 12 feet of line and tie it to the pole tip using your favorite knot that you use to tie line to hooks and lures. 10 to 12 feet of line is just a good starting point. You may want more or less depending on where your fishing. Strong line and knots are essential when you hook a fish because there is no time to play. You have to get the fish up and out of the brush as quickly as possible to avoid the fish from tangling your line.

Your lure should consist of one that is virtually snag free. I like a plastic worm, Texas Rigged and usually weightless, with a little twist in it’s tail. Culprit’s Original Worm in 7.5 inch is a good example. Floating frog type lures have worked for me in the past and that is a blast having a bass explode from the water that close. Experimentation with different lures is the key and try anything in which you have confidence.

Approach the submerged tree or brush with as much stealth as possible. If you can, keep the sun in your face to cast you and your boats shadow the opposite direction of the target area. Bass may be a top end predator in the water but they know a bigger predator when they see it. This technique doesn’t just apply to fishing from a boat. I have had considerable luck from the shore on large lakes in small tree filled coves where boats can’t get and small lakes and ponds where boats are not allowed.

Using this technique breaks the monotony of casting and adds an extra advantage in your arsenal of bass tackle. You may even run into a school of big slab crappie that dig what is being presented as a meal to them. Occasionally I catch a nice channel cat. Give it a try. The worst you could do is have some added fun.

How To Winterize Your Boat

Winterizing your boat is the single most important maintenance duty that you will have to perform as a boat owner. If it is done correctly, very little work will be required to get the boat ready for the water in the spring. Proper winterization greatly extends the life of the boat and its engine by protecting its components from freezing, corrosion and lying idle for long periods.

The first step in the winterization process is to ensure that the boat’s fuel tank is full – leave just a little room for expansion – and add fuel stabilizer in accordance with the instructions on the product. If the fuel tank isn’t full you run the risk of condensation forming within the tank which can lead to corrosion and clogging.

Heat Shrink Tubing

Turn off fuel valves and seal through-hull exhaust ports with duct tape. Replace the water separator and the fuel filter.

How To Winterize Your Boat

Protecting Your Engine

Run the engine for a while to warm it up and change the oil while it’s warm. This allows many of the impurities in the oil to be drained away. Change the oil filters. If your engine uses coolant drain the current fluid from the engine block and manifolds and replace it with a propylene glycol based antifreeze.

When a boat is not being used, oil tends to settle at the bottom of the engine block, exposing the pistons and valves to air, humidity and other corrosive materials. To avoid this situation remove the spark plugs and spray “fogging oil” inside the carburetor and into each cylinder. Replace the spark plugs without reconnecting the wires.

Replace the engine’s old gear oil with fresh oil. Dispose of any used oil at an authorized recycling center.

Outboards

Flush outboard engines with fresh water. Allow all water to drain from the engine and wash down the engine with soap and water. Disconnect the fuel hose and run the engine until it stops. It is important to ensure that all fuel is drained from the carburetor. Use fogging oil in the cylinders. Apply water resistant grease to propeller shaft and threads, and lightly lubricate the exterior of the engine or polish with a quality wax. Change the gear oil in the lower unit.

If your boat will be stored out of the water during the off season, disconnect the battery and store it at home. Boats left in the water should have the battery left in place on board and functioning so the bilge pump will continue to function if required. If you are removing the battery from the boat, ensure it is fully charged before stowing it away. Recharge every 30-60 days or keep on a trickle charger during the storage period and check the water level from time to time.

It is also sensible to remove any valuable marine electronics from the boat for the winter, and to store this equipment in a safe place to avoid theft and possible damage caused by temperature changes and humidity. The winterization process also offers an opportunity to inspect items like lines, flotation devices, flares, fire extinguishers, etc., for wear and tear and possible replacement.

Propeller

This is also a good time to check your boat’s propeller and hub. Bent or nicked propeller blades will diminish performance. The hub may also be have sustained extensive wear. If this type of damage is apparent, replace the propeller and make any necessary repairs during the winterizing process.

Clean, Clean, Clean

Clean the boat thoroughly inside and out. If you store your boat with dirt, scum, barnacles and the like on the exterior, these impurities will be even harder to remove in the spring. After the exterior of the boat has been cleaned, apply a quality polish to the exterior surfaces to create a protective barrier against dirt and dust. Clean the interior, including all timber, vinyl and carpet.

To help keep your boat free from mildew, you may wish to install a dehumidifier or use a moisture absorber. Turn any cushions up on edge so that air can circulate around them, or better yet, remove them from the boat.

Drain and clean the bilges. (If your boat will be stored out of the water remove all drain plugs and put them in a place where they’ll be easy to find when relaunching your boat in the spring.) Spray the bilges with moisture displacing lubricant and add a little antifreeze.

Empty The Head

Pump out the holding tank at an approved facility. While pumping, add fresh water to the bowl and flush several times. Use an approved cleaner for your type of system, and let the solution sit for a few minutes before adding more fresh water and pumping it out again. Add antifreeze and pump the coolant through the hoses, holding tank, Y-valve, macerator and discharge hose. Check your owner’s manual to be sure that an alcohol based antifreeze won’t damage your system.

Water Tanks

Drain the fresh water tank and any hot water heater. Isolate the hot water heater by disconnecting the in and out lines and connecting them together. Pump non-toxic antifreeze through the system by turning on all the taps / shower until the antifreeze starts coming out. Add non-toxic antifreeze to the water heater.

Put it on Blocks

If you own a trailer boat, consider putting the boat and trailer up on blocks for winter to take the pressure off the tires. Inspect the trailer and tires for wear and tear. Grease the wheel bearings and replace if necessary.

If at all possible, store your boat undercover. If you need to leave it outdoors you’ll require a boat cover. A good quality 8- to 10-ounce canvas boat cover should be adequate for most situation. Even undercover the boat should be covered to protect against dust and dirt, pests and bird droppings. For extreme conditions you could consider shrink-wrapping the boat. Do-it-yourself kits are available.

Five Tips to Winterize Your Home

When I rented an apartment, I never bothered to winterize the apartment and get it ready for the cold months. It didn’t really take that much more electricity and gas to heat a small apartment, so I just cranked up the furnace and enjoyed my toasty nights in bed while it was negative twenty degrees outside. But then it happened – suddenly I was a homeowner. The 1928 house I recently bought is anything but weatherproof. The basement is largely unfinished with windows that whine and whistle when the wind blows. The double-hung windows upstairs rustle the window blinds when a big gust blows through. Yes, it happened to me – I realize I need to winterize.

Having never owned a home before, I was surprised at the amount of options there are to get your house ready for the cold of winter. And, best of all, these tips will work for apartment renters as well. Roll up your sleeves and get ready for a day of fun.

Tip #1 – Check your door frame.

Five Tips to Winterize Your Home

Outside doors can let in a lot of cold air, even if you have a storm door installed. To see if my doors had a problem sealing I did this simple test: At night, turn the lights on in the hallway inside, then close the door (do not accidentally lock the door!) and if you can see light around the door frame, chances are you can improve the seal around the door. Buy some foam weather-stripping and seal around the door, taking care to cut out the part where the door locks. Close the door again and re-check. Hopefully you will have created a nice seal on the first try – good job!

Tip #2 – Door bottoms.

The bottom of a door presents its own problems. While they make plastic “squeegee” looking things that attach to the doors, they are not very attractive and can damage the door when they are removed. If you do not want to attach a plastic bottom to the door, then use a door snake (simple tube of material stuffed with polyfill and weighted with tiny rocks). There is even a new decide on the market that fits around your door bottom so it will still open and close!

Tip #3 – Outlets

Walls tend to breathe. If you have any type of crack in the walls, they will carry that draft until it finds a way out, including your light sockets. There are several companies that make foam inserts you can place inside your outlet cover that will help save energy and keep the cold air from escaping. These are very cheap and will take time to install but are worth every penny.

Tip #4 – Window Plastic

I used to laugh when my mother would spend the entire weekend taping up the windows and then shrinking the plastic with a hair dryer – until now. Window plastic wrap comes in all sorts of sizes and varieties, from plastic you “roll-on” and then cut to width, to the standard tape and press kind. The plastic is applied to the inside of the window, and then a hair dryer is used to shrink the plastic to create a tight seal. If you have windows that whistle or whine in the wind, then this is going to be your #1 defense. You can even double up on the plastic if you really wanted.

Tip #5 – Wrap That Heater

This is not so much a winterizing tip but a general energy-saving tip. While water heaters have become more energy efficient over the years, to increase their efficiency, use an approved water heater wrap. A gas water heater wrap that costs can save – in energy costs per year. Be sure to follow the instructions on the wrap as installation varies between gas and electric water heaters.

By utilizing these simple tips, even a novice can winterize a home and help cut down substantially on energy costs during the cold winter.

Prostate Cancer and Enlarged Prostate – Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment

We know that starting at age 40, the levels of the by-product prolactin of testosterone of men increases, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT triggering prostate enlargement and Prostate cancer. Therefore in order to prevent the symptoms of enlarged prostate and prostate cancer are to naturally impend the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Unfortunately, aging is not the only causes of enlarged prostate and prostate cancer. In this article, we will discuss other causes of prostate enlargement and prostate cancer.

I. Causes of enlarged prostate and prostate cancer

Heat Shrink Tubing

1. Genetics

Genetics may also play a role in enlarged prostate since study shows that prostate cancer and enlarged prostates can be inherited from generation to generation.

Prostate Cancer and Enlarged Prostate – Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment

2. Hormone imbalance

The outward appearance of a typical middle-aged person shows increased abdominal fat and shrinkage of muscle mass, which is the main factor causing hormone imbalance. Hormone imbalance is also caused by depression, stress, and anxiety that are the most common psychological complications of hormone imbalance.

3. Cell-growth factor

For whatever reason, some people have implicated in enlarged prostate that is a growth factor.

4. Mineral deficiency

Our prostate contains high amounts of zinc to function normally. Zinc deficiency causes the prostate to enlarge. This may be due to aging or uncontrolled diet with excessive alcohol drinking.

5. Obesity

Study shows that uncontrolled diet that is high in saturated and trans fats are the main cause of hormone imbalance that results in prostate enlargement. Researchers suggest that excess calorie consumption could somehow directly stimulate prostate enlargement because the excess body fat that accumulates causes an imbalance of hormone levels.

6. Testosterone

Testosterone deficiency may be caused by high amounts of the by-product prolactin of testosterone of men in the body that stimulates even higher productions of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase resulting in a high amount of the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT thus triggering prostate enlargement. Excess estrogen seems to be the culprit in prostate enlargement that leads to the pathology and favors the development of prostate cancer.

III. Symptoms

1. Nocturia.

Nocturia is defined as being awakened at night one or more times in order to pass urine. It becomes more common as the person becomes older. This common pattern seen among people with this condition is an increased number of times of waking up every night to urinate for the rest of their life.

Nocturnal Polyuria is an important cause of nocturia in which there is an overproduction of urine at night. It is defined to have nighttime urine volume that is greater than 20-30% of the total 24 hour urine volume. Nocturia occurs more commonly among older people. It also occurs in women and men differently. Women generally experience nocturia as a result from childbirth, menopause, and pelvic organ prolapse. Nocturia in men can be directly attributed to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate.

2. Dysuria.

Dysuria is a complication associated with genitourinary infections usually resulting in painful urination because the infection has made its way into the urinary tract, resulting in a urinary tract infection. Dysuria in men is usually indicative of a complication of the prostate, commonly referred to as prostatic hyperplasia caused by hormonal imbalances associated with estrogen production.

3. Asymptomatic

As we know the prostate gland becomes enlarged as a man ages. Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis may be diagnosed when infection-fighting cells are present causing common symptoms of prostatitis such as difficulty with urination, fever, and lower back and pelvic pain.

4. Epididymitis

Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis that connects the testicle with the vas deferens. Epididymitis is usually caused by infection of the urethra or the bladder. Epididymitis may begin with a low grade fever and chills with a heavy sensation in the testicle which becomes increasingly sensitive to pressure or traction.

III. Prevention and treatment

A. With Foods

1. Tomato

Tomatoes contain a high amount of lycopene that can help to protect the prostate and keep it healthy, but raw tomato is hard to digest. Be sure to take tomato with dark green leafy vegetables for helping the absorption of lycopene.

2. Soy bean and legume

Soybeans and legumes contains isoflavones and is a unique source of phytochemicals It directly inhibits the growth of different types of cancer cells and protects the prostate from being enlarged. Study shows that isoflavones were found to markedly inhibit prostate tumors in mice implanted with prostate cancer cells. Try adding soy or rice milk to your morning cereal or oatmeal.

2. Grapefruit

Grapefruits contain high amounts of vitamin C, minerals, bioflavonnoids and other plant chemicals that help to prevent enlarged prostate, prostate cancer and other forms of cancer and heart diseases.

3. Papaya

Papayas are rich in antioxidants, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin A, carotenoids and flavonoids that have cardio protective and anti-cancer effects. Eating papayas help to promote lung health and prevents the prostate from becoming enlarged and prevents prostate cancer.

4. Bean

Beans are rich in inositol pentakisphosphate. Beans are high in fiber, which helps the body rid itself of excess testosterone that reduces the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT thus triggering prostate enlargement and other problems.

5. Green tea

Green tea contains the antioxidant phytochemicals called polyphenols that attack growth factors and proteins, interrupting processes that increase the size of tumors, thus preventing them from spreading to other parts of the body. Green tea also help to prevent the development of benign prostate hyperplasia such as enlarged prostate and prostate cancer.

6. Broccoli

Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, including kale and cauliflower, are rich in sulphoraphane, a cancer-fighting phytochemical that helps rid the body of excess testosterone and reduces the risk of benign protatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.

7. Cold water fish

Cold water fish contains high amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids. Study shows that omega-3 fatty acids inhibit carcinogenesis that helps significantly lower levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in men with benign prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer.

B. With Supplements

1. Bee pollen

Bee pollen is an antioxidant containing high amounts of flavonoids, zinc and many other elements needed by our bodies. It has an astounding record at reversing prostate cancer and other prostate problems such as enlarged prostate.

2. Prostate glandulars

Animal prostates contain high amounts of zinc that nourishes the human prostate.

3. Alanine

Since alanine is present in prostate fluid, it plays an important role in prostate health. This has been confirmed in some studies that Alanine helps in preventing enlarged prostate and helps in strengthening the immune system.

4. Glutamics acid

The fluid produced by the prostate gland also contains high amounts of glutamic acid, and may play a role in the normal function of the prostate. High dosages of glutamic acid may cause headaches and neurological problems and people with kidney or liver disease should not consume high intakes of amino acids without first consulting with your doctor.

5. Glycine

Glycine is also found in fairly large amounts in the prostate fluid and may for this reason be important in prostate health. It is required to build proteins in the body and synthesis of nucleic acids, the construction of RNA as well as DNA, bile acids and other amino acids in the body. Study shows that glycine, taken withalanine and glutamic acid help to reduced the amount of swelling in the prostate tissue.

6. Lycopene

The substance found in tomatoes, fruits and vegetables can prevent and slow down prostate inflammation and prostate cancer. Study shows that lycopene helps to decrease in DNA the damage to prostate cells. Lycopene also protects against LDL cholesterol oxidation.

C. With Herbs

1. Saw palmetto

Saw palmetto is the number one choice when it comes to prostate health. Recent study of American Society for Cell Biology shows that saw palmetto inhibited prostate cancer cell growth in the test tube. It has been used for a long time as an herb to treat an enlarged prostate gland in men. It may also be used to treat prostate cancer. This herbal remedy has no significant side effects and only rarely causes mild stomach upset or diarrhea.

2. American Ginseng

The roots, has been used for centuries in Asian medicine as an aphrodisiac, a tonic for well being and a curative. American Ginseng is helpful in treating prostate problems due to low testosterone and androgen levels. It also inhibits cancer cells proliferation in a variety of cancer such as lung cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer.

Corn silk contains certain therapeutic properties that help to relieve the inflammation of the prostate. Corn silk are also popular as an alternative to standard Western allopathic medicine for treating bed-wetting and obesity.

4. Pumpkin seed extract

Pumpkin seeds contain high amounts of zinc and fatty acids which is necessary for the prostate’s health. Pumpkin seed extract helps to tone the bladder muscles, relax the sphincter mechanism and recongest the prostate.

5. Pygeum Africanum

Pygeum Africanum is rich in phytosterols, the substances that inhibit the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, which is the process responsible for prostate inflammation. Phytosterols also help to reduce the size of the prostate, promote normal urination and reduce cholesterol deposits in the prostate that can occur with BPH.

6.Essiac

Essiac is useful to regulate prostate gland function, stimulates gland activities, promote circulation of blood, relieves pain and inflammation and may permit increase sexual activities. Study shows that essiac possesses potent antioxidant and DNA-protective activity, properties that are common to natural anti-cancer agents.

7. Uva ursi

Uva ursi is an evergreen perennial shrub. It has been used since the year 150AD by various civilizations to treat urinary tract infections, kidney problems, Prostate, and bladder dysfunction.

8. Soy isoflavones

Study shows that an increased soy intake is related to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. Vitro tests showed that soy isoflavone inhibits growth of both androgen-sensitive and androgen-independent prostate cancer cells.

D. With Chinese Herbs

1. Saw palmetto

Saw palmetto has been used for over a century in traditional Chinese medicine in treating pain in the lower back, inflammation and enlargement by inhibiting dihydrotestosterone, thereby reducing its stimulation for cancerous cell multiplication.

2. Patrinia (Bai jiang cao)

Patrinia helps the body get rid of prostate inflammation and damp heat that exists in the body. In Chinese medicine damp heat in the prostate could be caused by bacteria infection, drugs and other conditions such as a habit of eating hot, spicy or greasy foods.

3. Lu lu tong (liquid amber)

Lu lu tong has the ability to improve qi and blood circulation . It also helps to reduce the abdominal, back and knee pain caused by damp heat as well as difficult urination because of bladder or prostate inflammation.

6. Gui Zhi (tokoro)

Gui Zhi is used for urinary tract disorder that pertains to ying qi levels which is the main cause of prostate inflammation. It also is used as a tonic and blood purifier.

7. Astragalus root

Astragalus root is a sprawling perennial legume. The Chinese medicine uses the dried sliced or powdered root of the plant to enhance immune function by increasing the activity of certain white blood cells, which increases the production of antibodies. It also helps to increase the body’s resistance to infections, to heal the allergies, and to raise and renew the vitality.

8. Che Qian zi (plantago seed)

It is mainly used for stone strangury caused by lower burner damp-heat, such as the symptoms of aching pain in the lumbus and abdomen, poor urination or with hematuria, and urinary tract stones.

9. Vaccaria seed

It is used to reduce pain and stiffness in the lower back, drain excessive damp heat, invigorate blood and treat difficult urination.

E. With Vitamins & Minerals

As we mentioned in previous articles, We know that starting at age 40, the levels of by-product prolactin of testosterone of men increases, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT triggering prostate enlargement and other problems. Besides aging there are many other causes of enlarged prostate and some of them might result in prostate cancer. Beside foods nutrition and herbs, vitamins and minerals also play an important role in preventing and treating prostate enlarged as well as prostate cancer.

1. Zinc

Zinc is necessary for male sexual and prostate health. Zinc inhibits the uptake of testosterone into prolactin. The prostate gland contains a higher concentration of zinc than any other organ in the body, therefore zinc deficiency is the major cause of enlarged prostate as well as an early indication of prostate cancer.

2. Selenium

Selenium contains an antioxidant enzyme that helps to enhance immune function, stop early cancer cells in their development and control cell damage that may lead to cancer. Foods that contain high levels of selenium are bran, broccoli, eggs, mushroom, and basil nut.

3. Vitamin C

As we know Vitamin C, a water-soluble vitamin, is commonly known as an antioxidant. Some studies show that increased levels of vitamin C reduce the risk for prostate cancer as well as prostate inflammation and enlarged prostate.

4. Vitamin D

Vitamin D is found in foods and is also produced by the body and activated after exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun. Studies show that activated vitamin D may be broken down in the prostate, where it may plays an important role in preventing enlarged prostate and prostate cancer. Vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of prostate cancer.

5. Vitamin E

Vitamin E plays an important role in preventing prostate cancer because it interferes with prostate specific antigen (PSA) and androgen receptor proteins that play a central role in the development of the disease.

F. With Homeopathic Remedies

1.Chimaphilia

Chimpaphilia acts principally on kidneys, and genito-urinary tract; affects also lymphatic and mesenteric glands. It helps in treating urge to urinate with burn pain, strain to urinate and prostate enlargement and irritation.

2.Conium maculatum

Conium maculatum is an excellent remedy for old age people. It helps to improve prostate enlargement, difficult urination, weakened urine flow and soften the prostate and enhance sexuality.

3. Hepar sulphuris calcareum

Hepar sulphuris calcareum is a mixture powder of oyster shells and pure flower of sulfur. You can purchase in mixture in a health food store and follow the instructions to make your own. Hepar sulphuris calcareum has proven record in treating dribbling urine and poor flow.

4. Sabal serrulata

Sabal serrulata is homeopathic to irritability of the genito-urinary organs. It is helpful in treating difficult urination caused by enlarged prostate, constant desire to urinate, as well as sexual inability.

5. Staphysagria

Staphysagria is helpful in treating diseases of the genito-urinary tract such as the urge to urinate, inability to urinate fully and feeling of bladder not being empty.

6. Thuja

The main action of thuja is on the genito-urinary organs. It is helpful in treating enlarged prostate, sudden desire to urinate and split urinary stream.

G. With Common Sense Approaches

1. Reduce fat and cholesterol intake, especially saturated fats.

Study shows that if you eat more than 5 servings of red meat every week you could increase the risk of enlarged prostate and prostate cancer by 80%. By eating less of red meat and replacing them with cold water fish, you are ensured yourselves to get enough omega fatty acid that helps to improve your prostate health, reduce cholesterol levels, lower the risk of enlarged prostate as well as prostate cancer.

2. Eat foods containing more zinc (nuts- especially walnuts, pumpkin, seeds, safflower seeds and oysters). Zinc is an essential mineral for prostate health. It helps to reduce the size of the prostate and relieve symptoms of enlarged prostate. Foods containing zinc also contain cucurbitacines, chemicals that stop testosterone from changing to stronger forms of testosterone which encourages too many prostate cells to grow. Foods that contain cucurbitacines are nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seed, and oyster.

3. Guard your prostate with green tea

Green tea contains catechins, a chemical that helps our immune system to track down tumor cells before they can do any harm to the prostate cells. Green tea may be one reason that Asian people have far fewer cases of prostate cancer than North Americans.

4. Remove all chemicals and pesticides from diet (eat organic food).

Chemicals and pesticides in the processing food is toxic to our body. Intaking high doses of these poisonous chemicals will danger our immune system as well as cause inflammation of the body including the prostate.

5. Increase consumption of plants high in the sulphurophanes

Study shows that you could reduce the risk of prostate cancer and prostate enlargement by 45% if you eat 24 or more servings of vegetables that contain high amounts of sulphurophanes such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and cabbage.

H. Activities That Help to Maintain a Healthy Prostate

1. Moderate exercise (like walking)

We know that one half to three-quarters of men older than 75 will have some cancerous changes in their prostate glands. People doing moderate exercise like walking for 2 to 3 hours per week had a 25 percent less risk of developing prostate problems than those who did not. Just 20-30 minutes walking a day would help to increase circulation of blood to the body as a side benefit for better sexual function and prostate health.

2. Sitz baths

It is one of the earliest prostate treatments and the most effective remedies for prostate pain. This special bath brings a great flow of blood to a specific area of the body while the regular hot bath is pleasant and generally increases circulation throughout your body.

3. Yoga

Yoga is really helpful to the prostate. It also helps tone the deep pelvic muscles there by promoting circulation. Yoga promotes flexibility, circulation, and stimulates the liver meridian. In general yoga helps a person to be more aware of his pelvic area in terms of his muscular control.

4. Kegal exercise

Kegal exercise when performed while in virasana, bhekasana or frog pose also promotes good prostate health and overall benefit to the urogenital tract.

5. Spinal and pelvic massage

Spinal and pelvis massage helps to

a) Increase blood supply to the prostate and the pelvic area.

b) Increase lymphatic flow to the prostate and the pelvic area.

c) Reduces inflammatory conditions.

6. Joyful sex life

Sex helps increase movement of the pelvic muscles and the blood circulation to all organs of your body. As fresh blood supply arrives your cells, organs and muscles are saturated with fresh oxygen and hormones, and as the used blood is removed, you also remove waste products and toxins from your body, thus reducing the risk of inflammation of the prostate.

Labels Enhance Lives – Consumer Electronics – Corral the Cables and Take Charge of the Chargers

Cell phones, digital cameras, PDAs, MP3 players, GPS systems, laptops, digital TVs, DVD players, security systems, gaming devices, e-book readers, entertainment systems, OH MY! Consumer electronics-part of life in the 21st century-help us get organized, keep track of schedules, communicate instantly, seek information quickly, navigate, relax, read, learn, exercise and play. The flow of new new technologies that make our lives “easier” won’t stop. According to the Consumer Electronics Association, the industry projects revenues of 1 billion in 2009, up from 5 billion in 2008.

With our e-gadgetry culture comes a mass of connections, cords, chargers, cables and potentially, CHAOS! Have you ever glimpsed behind your TV or under your desk and cringed at the sight of cables all curled up with no place to go? Or worried that if one gets disconnected you won’t know where it goes? Industry insiders know that cable management is a must, so here are a few tips to keep cable clutter in the home, office and shop under control!

Heat Shrink Tubing

• Gather your supplies: label printer, dusting/cleaning supplies, heat-shrink tube gun, and cable ties, spools, wraps, clips, etc.

Labels Enhance Lives – Consumer Electronics – Corral the Cables and Take Charge of the Chargers

• Be sure to turn off and unplug the power to all cables and devices. Take a digital photo of the arrangement so you’ll remember what gets plugged into where. Then disconnect and lay out each cable near its component. Be sure to dust all cables before labeling. You’ll want to straighten the cords and then use a device such as a cable tie to take up the slack as you reconnect.

• Think twice before using masking tape and marker to identify cables and wires. Professional labels are essential in organizing electronics as they aid in troubleshooting and reconnection, enhance safety, add permanence and have lasting durability. Masking tape dries with age, marker can smear, and handwriting isn’t always legible!

• Consider the best way to label for the job: adhesive tape, tape flag, or heat-shrink tube. Multi-purpose label printers like the K-Sun LABELShop’s BEE3® and BEE3+® can do all of these and have numerous symbols, graphics and fonts to customize your identification, too.

• Color coding is essential to identify the source and termination of all wires and cables. Polyester adhesive tape and heat-shrink tube materials are permanent, smear-proof and fade-resistant and withstand cold, heat, moisture and solvents.

• Label ports, hubs and stations as to where each individual cable belongs in case of accidental removal, disconnection or for maintenance. This eases reconnection and alleviates frustration!

• A portable label printer can be used anywhere: under the desk, on the job, in the plant or in the home, because it works with batteries or an AC or auto/truck adapter.

• Check out different types of cable management supplies. Some common types:

- Nylon cable ties are inexpensive, durable and available at most stores. After installation, the end of the cable tie is trimmed. When removing, the tie must be cut off. Use caution when trimming after installation and cutting to remove. Ties should be snug but not too tight.

- Cable wraps accomplish the same task but can be easily removed, reused and labeled.

- Cable clips and clamps can help you attach wires and cables to the underside of your desk or along furniture supports.

- Towers, sleeves or tubes such as such corrugated plastic tubing or wire loom allow several cables to be packaged together.

- Grommets (rubber, metal and plastic) are pass-through inserts designed for access holes found in desks and media cabinets to keep cables together.

- Spools and winders take up the slack from phone lines and cables. Several spool-like devices are specifically designed for this purpose.

- Cord covers, tracks and ducts are tunnel-like devices that cover cables in traffic areas to prevent accidents from tripping or gather cables to be mounted on desks or walls.

- Charger stations offer a solution for docking your electronic devices, making them easy to find and to keep charged. Make sure to label each dock and charger cable for the specific device so that you don’t accidentally damage the device by plugging it into the wrong charger.

With these simple tips, you’ll corral the cord chaos in no time!

Subserosal Uterine Fibroids – Some Important Facts

Subserosal uterine fibroids normally grow on the outer surface of the uterus. As they grow in size it gives the uterus a knobby appearance. Often these tumors are connected to the uterus with a long stalk or a stem-like base. This type of uterine tumor is referred to as pedunculated subserosal fibroids. This kind of fibroid is very similar to ovarian mass.

Subserosal uterine fibroids normally do not affect the size of the uterine cavity. Women in prime reproductive age are most likely to suffer from subserosal uterine tumors.

Symptoms of Subserosal uterine tumors

Subserosal Uterine Fibroids – Some Important Facts

Some of the common symptoms experienced by women with this type of fibroids include:

•Pelvic pain

•Back pain

•A feeling of bloating

•Constipation

•Heaviness or pressure in the abdominal area

•Frequent urge to pass urine

•Damage to the kidneys due to compression of the urethra

•Abdominal cramps and pain

•Pain due to twisting of pedunculated subserosal fibroids

Since this type of fibroids is located on the outer surface of the uterus, they typically do not cause heavy or abnormal bleeding which is a common symptom of other types of uterine tumors.

Subserosal uterine tumors & Fertility

Normally subserosal tumors cannot cause infertility. However large and pedunculated subserosal fibroid may have a significant impact on fertility and pregnancy. This type of tumor is located on the outer surface of the uterus. As they start increasing in size it can exert pressure on the surrounding organs. In certain rare cases these uterine tumors can also obtain blood supply from these organs.

Another way in which this type of fibroids can impact fertility is by compressing the fallopian tubes. Effectively this results in blocking the fallopian tube and preventing the sperm from meeting the egg.

Subserosal uterine tumors can also impact pregnancy. During the course of pregnancy, these tumors grow with the uterus and the baby. This results in the uterus becoming cramped. Thus it not only affects the development of the fetus, but also contributes to other complications and difficulties in labor.

Treatment

Surgery and methods to shrink fibroids naturally are the two options available for treating this type of fibroids. Laproscopic myemectomy is a surgical procedure in which laproscope is placed in the abdomen via the belly button. During this procedure the pendunculated subserosal fibroid is plucked, cut into small pieces and removed. Uterine artery embolization is another surgical option for treating this type of fibroids. Natural treatment for fibroids makes use of dietary changes, lifestyle alterations, herbal medicines and alternative forms of healing like acupuncture to get rid of fibroids.

Was Your Vote Tamper Evident?

Did you vote in the 2008 election? If so, how safe do you think your vote was? That was the question posed of a recent ABC news segment titled “How Safe Is Your Vote?” While Barack Obama beat out John McCain in the presidential race by a pretty resounding margin, other contests across the nation proved a lot closer, where every vote counted. As a result, voter fraud was on the minds of many as they entered and exited the polling booths.

A team of Princeton computer scientists recently examined voting procedures in New Jersey and came to the conclusion that in this day and age of electronic voting machines, votes are “not that safe” and are far too susceptible to fraud. “All you need is 10 minutes of unsupervised access to a voting machine to open it up and stick in a vote stealing program,” pointed out one of the computer scientists involved in the investigation. “In 5 seconds he was able to pick the lock on a machine. In less than 10 minutes, the professor demonstrated how he was able to unscrew the back panel and replace the computer chip with one he programmed to steal votes.”

So what did the state of New Jersey do about its voter fraud susceptibility? New Jersey’s Director of Elections, Robert Giles, said, “Every one of the ten thousand voting machines used on election night will have layers of tamper-proof security. We have metal cable seals. We have security screw caps, tamper evident tape.”

Was Your Vote Tamper Evident?

The computer scientist who was able to hack in, however, questioned the state’s security measures. “Those tamper-proof seals can be faked; it’s not that difficult.” What’s more, New Jersey was “just one of a handful of states … [that used] … the paperless, electronic voting machines on Tuesday.”

When it comes to matters like eating, drinking and even voting, where one can never be too safe, reputable tamper evident protection can go a long way toward eliciting peace of mind. A leading manufacturer, converter and printer of heat shrink PVC, PET-G, OPS & EarthFirst PLA films provides that peace of mind not just on Election Day, but every day of the year. Specializing in vibrantly printed shrink labels, heat shrink bands used for tamper-evidence and shrink sleeves for promotional multipacks and other shrink products, such a company adds to consumer – and voter – confidence.

Tamper-evident shrink bands can be cut to the customer’s exact specifications. Other tamper-evident options include tubing in clear and white, which is printed with “Sealed For Your Protection.” Such tubing is offered in rolls for use on automatic equipment like electronic voting machines. Tubing can also be cut to order, and single vertical perforations can be added.

Whether the New Jersey Board of Elections had such protective measures in place prior to residents casting their 2008 ballots remains up in the air. However, such tamper-evident security initiatives are definitely something the state – and all states – should look into to assure the validity of every single vote that is cast.

How to Shave Your Pubic Hair – A Woman’s Guide

If you are reading this article, I will assume that you are a first-timer and have never taken scissors, a razor, an electric shaver or anything else to the fuzz growing between your legs. It may be in a state of complete chaos and you’re wondering how things ever got so out of control…but the important thing is that you’ve taken that first step and decided to shave.

Before you get started, you may want to take some time to consider the various hair styles and designs you can select when it comes to taking this hair removal plunge. There is so much to cover, we’ve made a completely separate article about it. In the past, it has been common to just trim or pluck the bikini area, go with a basic landing strip pattern or simply shave it all off. But in the 21st century, people are taking a much more creative approach to pubic hair grooming; shaving or waxing intricate patterns into their hair and even coloring it.

Heat Shrink Tubing

You’ll should gather everything you’ll need in the bathroom (generally the best place to do this task) so you don’t need to stop in the middle of the process to fetch something. I will be focusing on shaving with a personal razor (non-electric) and shaving cream for the majority of this article. I personally use the Gillette Venus Vibrance and find it leaves a very smooth shave. If you want to save a few bucks on razor blades, you don’t need to buy their special Vibrance blades because they are no different than the original Venus ones aside from coloring – but don’t tell Gillette I told you that!

How to Shave Your Pubic Hair – A Woman’s Guide

Now it’s time to get down to business. One of the first things you will want to do is trim down your pubic hair with a pair of clean scissors or an electric razor. (If you’ve shaved before and your pubic hair isn’t very long, you can skip this first step and just start with the main event.) You want your scissors or razor to be clean so you don’t cause yourself any unnecessary risks of infection. When you shave, it is likely that tiny nicks will develop (some of them so tiny you won’t even see them) and if you’re using scissors you were just using to prune flowers in your garden or an electric razor you used on your dog, your chances of a bacterial infection are certainly going to be elevated.

“Trim down” means what it sounds like. The goal is not to remove all your pubic hair in this step but to thin the trees back so you can get an effective shave with your razor later on. Otherwise you will end up cleaning your razor many, many times to keep the blade exposed and may end up snagging hairs which is never pleasant. You may want to do the trimming over the toilet bowl or in your shower, but you will certainly want to collect the hair you trim off somehow. If you are planning to be waxed instead of shaving, your pubic hair should be around one quarter of an inch long but no shorter than one eighth of an inch.

If you haven’t done so already, why not check out your hair situation now in the mirror and see how things are going? You may find that after a trim, you have reached a pubic hair length which you are comfortable with. It’s your hair and if you’re not ready to go completely bare yet, there’s no pressure. But if you are ready to go on, so am I.

It’s now time to get wet and lather up. I prefer to shave in the shower after I’ve washed my hair because it gives the skin a bit of time to warm up and lets the steam of the warm shower soften the skin. You could also take a bath first but should shave at the end when you are ready to drain the water. I also usually put one leg up on the side of the bathtub or on a stool or step in the shower so I have better access to everything.

Cover your pubic hair with shaving oil, jelly or lather to form a layer of lubrication between your skin and the razor. I like to use shaving oil and jelly because I can feel the razor sliding over the skin smoothly, without leaving cuts and nicks. If you are desperate, hair conditioner can also be used but for best results I’d only use it in a real emergency.

You may also want to give some consideration to the type of shaving matter you use and what skin types it is recommended for. My favorite products are Venereous Shaving Oil and Venereous Shaving Jelly from Newf Brand. You can use them together, the jelly layered over the oil, or you can use each of them separately. Using them together just gives you an extra layer of shaving protection against nicks and leaves the skin extra moisturized. Plus neither of these products foam so you can actually see what you’re shaving which is very useful.

Some gels have mint and other ingredients in them which may not be suitable for the sensitive skin in your nether regions. I have not had any adverse reactions using men’s shaving gel versus women’s but I generally select a product for sensitive skin. Some women’s shaving gels state on the label that they are recommended to be used in the bikini zone and generally have a more feminine scent to them.

I usually cover the entire area I am going to shave at the beginning so I don’t need to set the razor down constantly and fiddle with the container of shaving gel. You can always go back and add more shaving oil later, but be careful with some gels and creams because if you leave leave them on too long, you may start to notice a burning sensation on your skin. If that occurs, wash the lather off immediately and give your skin a few moments to recuperate. If you have another shaving lather, you may want to use it for the rest of the process and I would recommend not using the shaving lather which burns you again in the future for this sensitive area.

Now you’re ready to put the blade to your skin. Don’t be scared. If you’ve shaved your legs before, you know that it can take a little time before you are fully comfortable with all the contours of your body. Shaving your mound is no different and each one varies so you may find that these steps don’t work perfectly for you or that a different order is a bit better. I’m just speaking from my personal shaving experience over the last 8 years.

Start with the top of your mound, use one hand to gently pull back the skin so it is tight and, with the razor in the other hand, shave down with the hair growth. I like to start on the sides near the crease of my legs and then work towards the center. After I’ve shaved most of my mound against the hair growth, I then shave against the growth and sometimes from side to side.

In some areas of the body, such as the armpits, hair grows in multiple directions and to get a very close shave, you need to shave in each direction of growth to get every hair at its base. But when first starting out this can increase your chances of razor burn in the end so be sure that you have plenty of lather covering your mound while doing this. Run your fingers over your mound and if it’s smooth, you’re ready to go on.

The lips can be a bit trickier although the outer labia should be similar to shaving your mound. Shaving against the hair growth usually gets most of the hairs although you may have to retrace your stroke one or twice to catch any strays. Try not to go over the skin too many times, though, as this also might cause irritation later on. If you feel the need to shave with the hair growth, be careful because you may end up nicking yourself which is quite uncomfortable.

To shave inside your labia, use your free hand to gently roll the lips open and carefully pull the razor up along the edge of your lip and around the upper ridge to get those little hairs which will really agitate your partner during oral sex if they are missed.

At this stage, you are more or less finished. You may want to reach back and give your anus a quick once over just to be thorough. This is where a second set of hands would come in very handy. In fact, you may want someone to assist you during this entire process but try not to get too carried away or you may end up with a lot more cuts than you expected.

Once you get out of the shower or the tub, you may want to use a moisturizer such as Venereous Mountain Mist to help prevent irritated skin and razor burn. Try to avoid excessively touching the area for a few hours as that may also cause irritated skin.

If you decide you love the feeling of your smoothly shaved mound, maintaining this style is simple. You will probably only want to shave every few days at first until your skin gets used to this constant new attention. If you do decide to start shaving daily right from the start, your skin may be more sensitive and irritated for the first few days that you continue this process. But as it adjusts, any discomfort and elevated levels of irritation usually subside.

Although shaving can be a bit tricky and it does take a bit of getting used to, most women love the results – and so do their partners! If you’re doing this just for someone else, don’t forget to let them know that you did go to some trouble and would really appreciate if they went out of their way to clear the forest too (if they aren’t already)!
